All About Mandys Horseradish
Mandys Horseradish is owned and operated by New Zealand’s Mandy Steel, who has been working in the business since 2004. It would be an understatement to call her a fan of the stuff, and Mandy’s commitment to offering the very best horseradish products on the market is renowned. Processing horseradish is a laborious procedure that moves from the harvest (through digging) onto hand washing, and then hand peeling, all while wearing mask and googles to guard against the potent fumes (which make onion fumes look like a cheery walk in the park) before the horseradish is placed in jars. This unadultered, traditional process promotes a delicious heat and real flavour that makes Mandys Horseradish a hit with enthusiasts and an exceptional product that stands out from the crowd.
Grown on the Canterbury Plains
Mandy is the largest grower of horseradish in New Zealand, with over 6 acres of plants grown on the outskirts of Christchurch. The Canterbury Plains provides the perfect environment in which to grow horseradish with its crisp winter frosts, balanced with a reliable sun and rain yield that also contributes to produce a heat tempered, distinct, and moreish horseradish, and providing Mandys Horseradish with both its unique depth and its celebrated heat factor. Mandys Horseradish is a true artisan product that is proudly 100% New Zealand produced. Previously awarded a Cuisine Magazine Artisan Award, Mandys Horseradish Sauce is recognised and well supported by many of New Zealand’s leading chefs.
Mandys Horseradish and Mustard are both devotedly handmade and are entirely additive and preservative free.
